The eTumour consortium is proud to announce its workshop
At the Local Organising Committee we are very proud to announce the upcoming first eTUMOUR international workshop "Towards brain tumour classification by molecular profiling: imaging, metabolomic and genomic tools".
Background
Brain tumours afflict a larger percentage of the European population as lifespan increases, and in children over 1 year of age, brain tumours are the most common solid malignancies that cause death from disease. Diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours is based on clinical symptoms, radiological appearance, and often a histopathological diagnosis of a biopsy. However, treatment response of histological or radiologically similar tumours can vary widely, particularly for childhood tumours. New technologies are available that may improve tumour classification in terms of diagnosis and prognosis, and may allow individually optimized treatments. Molecular profiling of cancer by metabolomic and genomic techniques has already shown a great potential in addressing these important tasks.
Aims
The aim of this workshop is to gather international scientific and clinical expertise in brain tumour molecular profiling to share knowledge for a deeper molecular understanding of these cancers. The outcome of this workshop may provide the basis for improving tumour classification and provide health care professionals with better tools for brain tumour diagnosis, prognosis and therapy selection in the clinical practice.
Target audience
Scientists and clinicians interested in increasing their knowledge about molecular profiling of brain tumours by MR spectroscopy and genetic high throughput technologies with potential applications in diagnosis.
